Geography class takes a hike to local landmark (2 photos)

Archie's Rock dates back to the last ice age

A geography class recently got out of the classroom and into the outdoors to explore.

Grade 9 students from O'Gorman High School took a trip to Archie's Rock near Star Lake for hands-on learning last week.

"Archie's Rock is an interesting geological formation that dates back to the last ice age where a number of huge boulders were deposited on top of one another in the middle of a dense forest. The original bedrock material that makes up Archie's Rock is approximately 2.7 billion years old," reads a Northeastern Catholic District School Board news release.

To explore Archie's Rock yourself, off Highway 101 West take Little Star Lake Road. The trail access is about 2.5 kilometres in.
