Four teens charged in 28 thefts, 19 break and enters

COCHRANE - Since June 1, 2017, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Cochrane have investigated multiple break, enter and theft occurrences throughout the Town of Cochrane, Ont.

Several areas within Cochrane have been targeted; however the majority of the infractions have been committed between 3rd and 8th Streets and 11th and 18th Avenues. These crimes are still under investigation.

Police investigation reveals that 28 thefts and 19 break and enters have been reported which involved stolen property such as electronics, bicycles, fuel, lawn ornaments, tools, Canadian currency as well as personal property; all of which were stolen from motor vehicles, residences, garages and businesses.

On Sept. 21, 2017 the OPP executed two search warrants at separate residences relating to the break, enter and thefts. Police have arrested and charged four individuals.

A 19-year-old male, of Cochrane, Ont. is charged of the following:

  • Seven counts of break and enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • One count of theft under $5,000 from motor vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

He is being held pending a bail hearing in Cochrane, Ont.

Also charged is a 16-year-old male from Cochrane who cannot be identified as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The charges include:

  •  Seven counts of break and enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • One count of theft under $5,000 from motor vehicle, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

He is also being held pending a bail hearing in Cochrane, Ont.

Also charged is a 17-year-old male from Cochrane, Ont. who cannot be identified as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with break and enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC. 

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ont. on Oct. 17, 2017.

Also charged is a 15-year-old female from Cochrane, Ont. who cannot be identified as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC. 

She was released on a Promise to Appear and his scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ont. on Oct. 17, 2017.
