Foundation delivers special gifts to dialysis patients

More than 70 bags were handed out before Christmas

Dialysis patients received an early Christmas present this year.

The local branch of the Kidney Foundation put together a special package for people receiving peritoneal and hemodialysis at Timmins and District Hospital.

More than 70 bags packed were packed with a blanket, gum, activity books, pen, earbuds and other items that people use during dialysis, said Joanne Hagger-Perritt, who's a board member of the local chapter.

“This is the first year that this has been done. We often send fruit trays or maybe lunches to dialysis patients at Christmas time, but because we do have this partnership with Jackpot City we were able to do something a little bit bigger,” she said.

The local chapter is one of more than 70 charities supported by the Timmins Charitable Gaming Association, which distributes a portion of the net revenue at Jackpot City to approved organizations.

Earlier this year, the foundation also donated four new chairs to the dialysis unit with the money it received from the association.
