Timmins police have charged a Timmins man following an investigation into the theft of money from several accounts belonging to a local union.

Timmins police have charged a Timmins man following an investigation into the theft of money from several accounts belonging to a local union.

At the time of the offence, the accused held the title of union president for an association of a local business. Following an investigation by the Timmins Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Section, it was determined that between July 2006 and May 2013, the accused withdrew funds from the association’s recreational account for his personal use.

It was further determined that the accused also withdrew funds from the association’s regular account and made personal purchases at grocery stores, gas stations, and local restaurants.

The money stolen totals over $27,000.

Richard CLARKE, 51, is charged with theft over $5000. He was released on a promise to appear, with a court date of January 21, 2014.
