TIMMINS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The past two years have brought about tumultuous tornadoes, uprooting our local businesses and organizations and landing them in a very unfamiliar and uncertain place. To remedy and celebrate the very spirit of business, the Chamber has rallied its munchkins to launch the 2022 Nova Business Excellence Awards and transport entrepreneurs to the merry old land of Oz.

To be held in person on Thursday, May 12, the Nova Awards are the region's largest celebration of entrepreneurial achievement and help to recognize the best of Timmins business across 15 categories. This year's event will feature the theme of The Wizard of Oz—There's No Place Like Timmins to help showcase all the many ways that Timmins' entrepreneurs continue to show the size of their hearts, offer their fortitude through courage and display the virtue of their brains to the benefit of our entire community.

"Timmins businesses are capable of great magic, knowing full-well that they've always had the power to change the landscape of our community; you'll just have to learn it for yourself," said Rob Knox, president of The Chamber. "We're hoping that their clients, consumers, and patrons take the time to nominate a worthy business.”

"Every year, the Nova Awards encourages our business leaders to display the sound conviction and boldness of Auntie Em in protecting and preserving the cultural fabric of Timmins. So, if you know a business owner who fought a few flying monkeys this year, be sure to nominate them because if you ever go looking for your heart's desire again, don't look any further than your own backyard," added Knox.

Nominations are now being accepted for the following awards:

  • BMT Insurance and Financial Services Business Contribution to the Community Award (1-5 employees)
  • The Venture Centre Business Contribution to the Community Award (6-10 employees)
  • NorthernTel Business Contribution to the Community Award (11+ employees)

"The Nova Awards are one of the Chamber's signature events. Last year saw the second virtual iteration, with people from across the region viewing from their homes and office spaces. Now with the 20th anniversary celebration, this Emerald City theme promises to put on quite the celebration as it upholds its reputation, back in person, as the best way to amplify business success in Timmins, all featured in glorious Technicolor," said Knox.

"To paraphrase the great L. Frank Baum, no matter how dreary and grey our winters can be, we people would rather live here than in any other country. There is no place like home and no business like a Timmins business. Nominations can be submitted online, so if you know a Nova-worthy business, save the melting and nominate! After all, Glinda the Good Witch hailed from the North," added Knox.

Nomination packages are available online by visiting here and will be accepted until Jan. 28, 2022. Finalists will be notified on March 1, and tickets will go on sale on March 21.
