The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry – Timmins District is advising area residents that a flood watch is in effect in the district until Friday, May 31, 2019 at 4 p.m.
Residents in and around Minisinakwa Lake including low-lying areas of Gogama should keep a close watch on conditions, regularly check for updated messages and stay away from fast moving rivers and streams.
Residents are advised that there is a potential risk of flooding in the coming days. The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.
Technical information:
Description of Weather System Warmer temperatures with precipitation amounts ranging from 10-20mm was experienced over the last few days in the Timmins and Gogama areas.
Daytime temperatures will be in the double digits and 5 to 10 mm of precipitation are anticipated for the coming days.
Description of Current Conditions:
The majority of the snowpack has melted; however, water levels and flows remain high. Local inflows are anticipated to impact the system throughout the weekend and into next week. Residents in and around Minisinakwa Lake including low-lying areas of Gogama are advised of the risk of flooding. Residents are recommended to keep a close watch on local forecasts and conditions.

- WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – FLOOD OUTLOOK: gives early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high winds or other conditions
- WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY: indicates that high flows, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for such users as boaters, anglers and swimmers but flooding is not expected.
- FLOOD WATCH: potential for flooding exists within specific watercourses and municipalities
- FLOOD WARNING: flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.
