A fire near Horwood Lake is still not under control, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.

One new forest fire was confirmed in the northeast region as of this afternoon.

Sudbury 52 is located east of Pilon crescent near Chelmsford, within the municipality of Greater Sudbury. Twin Otters, and one FireRanger crew assisted the municipal fire department with this 0.3 hectare fire.

Currently, there are ten other active fires in the region. Of these, one is not yet under control, five are under control and four are being observed.

Timmins 10, located 42 kilometres southeast of Foleyet near Horwood Lake, is now 136 hectares.

"A quieter day for fire activity today allowed fire crews to make good progress establishing hoselines, with assistance from a belly tanking helicopter. Fire suppression efforts will be focused on the north end of the fire in coming days and smoke will continue to be visible in the area," reads today's update.

The fire hazard in areas of the region situated south of North Bay and north of Timmins is mostly low to moderate, while the central portion of the region — including most of Wawa sector — is maintaining a high hazard this afternoon.
