With extreme fire conditions across the region, a fire ban has been issued for the City of Timmins.

The ban is effective immediately.

"This is due to a lack of precipitation and extreme dry conditions. The fire ban is in effect until further notice and includes all areas within the City limits. The fire ban means that no burning or open flame is allowed. All burning permits have been suspended and Service Timmins has ceased issuing burning permits at this time," reads the city notice.

The ban means that there is no outdoor burning of any kind allowed.

"Any person setting an open-air fire will be responsible and liable for costs and possibly fined," says the city.
