Fewer hospitalizations, 58 new COVID cases reported Thursday

There are 58 new COVID-19 cases being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Feb. 10). 

The number of hospitalizations has dropped by three since yesterday, with 23 people in hospital. There's also been a drop in ICU admissions, with no one currently in intensive care. 

At Timmins and District Hospital, there are 12 patients testing positive. One of those people was admitted for reasons specifically related to the virus. 

There are 24 patients who have been tested and are waiting for the results or who will be tested.

For the new cases, five people are in Timmins, five are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 39 are in James Bay and Hudson Bay, eight are in the Kapuskasing area and one is in Hearst and Hornepayne. 

To date, there have been 4,700 confirmed cases in the region and 42 deaths. There are 403 known active cases — 71 in Timmins, 57 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 25 in the Kapuskasking area, 50 in Hearst and Hornepayne, and 200 in the James Bay area.

Due to changes in testing, case numbers are underestimated.

Free rapid antigen tests are now available at eight grocery stores and pharmacies in Timmins, as well as at others across the region.
