Fewer hospitalizations, 42 new COVID cases reported Tuesday

A drop in hospitalizations and 42 new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today (Feb. 22). 

There are nine hospitalizations in the region, which is down from 11 from the last report on Friday. Three of the hospitalizations were due to COVID.

At Timmins and District Hospital, there are six patients testing positive. Two of the admissions were for reasons related to the virus. 

There are 22 patients who have been tested and are waiting for the test results or who will be tested.

For the new cases, there are 15 people in Timmins, six in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 16 in James Bay and Hudson Bay, four in the Kapuskasing area, and one is unknown.

To date, there have been 5,255 confirmed cases in the region and 44 deaths. There are 406 known active cases — 89 in Timmins, 60 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 21 in the Kapuskasking area, 23 in Hearst and Hornepayne, 210 in the James Bay area, two out of region and one unknown.

Due to changes in testing, case numbers are underestimated.
