Extensive damage caused by Schumacher hotel fire

The Timmins Fire Department fought a fire in Schumacher last night at the Grandview Hotel, 40 Father Costello Dr. The initial call came in at 4:23 a.m.

Damage to the building caused by smoke, fire and water are extensive. The buildings located at each side of the Grandview were not damaged by the fire.

Traffic on Father Costello Drive was disrupted for a few hours while the Timmins Fire Department responded to this fire with multiple fire apparatus, two aerial trucks and two pumper trucks.

Resources from Schumacher Station, South Porcupine Station and Timmins Station made up the 30 firefighters that were on scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Timmins Fire Department is a composite Fire Department that operates seven fire stations; five volunteer stations, one composite station and one airport station. The Fire Department is equipped with a total of 21 pieces of apparatus, 140 volunteers firefighters and 34 career firefighters.
