Erratic driving leads to impaired charge for Whitby man

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Whitby man with impaired driving related offences stemming from an incident which occurred during the early evening hours of Thursday, July 11. While completing general patrols of the Mount-joy Township area, a Timmins Police Service officer took note of a vehicle being driven in an erratic fashion on Riverside Drive.

A traffic stop was initiated by the officer and he made observations regarding the sobriety of the driver of the passenger vehicle. Based on the result of a roadside breath screening test, the driver was arrested and taken into custody to complete further breath testing procedures.

As a result of the investigation, Tareq Hinawy, 57, of Whitby, Ont., has been charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Operate motor vehicle – blood alcohol concentration in excess of 80 milligrams contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Aug. 27 to answer to the charges laid against him.
