SMOOTH ROCK FALLS - Ellie’s Bistro is closing its doors for good next week.
The restaurant’s owner, Eric Marceau, said he was informed a couple of months ago that the building was going up for sale. “And the realtor would like to have it empty in order to sell it,” he said.
Marceau, who was born and raised in Smooth Rock Falls and studied culinary management at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, opened the bistro on Nov. 14, 2020. He named it after his daughter, Ellie.
“I had a chip stand before this that was called Ellie's Chip Stand, as well. So, I just wanted to continue on with that,” he said.
Marceau said he’s not sure what’s next for him. “I’m trying to keep my options open,” he said.
On Dec. 20, Marceau took to the business’s Facebook page to share the news about its closure.
“This was a great three years. Thank you to everyone who supported Ellie’s Bistro and the staff. Unfortunately, I will be closing Dec. 31. We will miss you all,” he wrote.
The post received hundreds of likes, shares and comments from people across Canada expressing their love for Marceau’s food as well as their sadness and disappointment about the restaurant’s closure.
Marceau said he was both surprised and overwhelmed by everyone’s reactions and kind words.
“It means a lot,” Marceau said. “I just want to say thank you for everybody's support. I really appreciate everybody's feedback and everything.”
