Eight events to look forward to in April

Spring is in the air, and the schedule for community events is filling up.

From markets, to sampling brews to Comicon, wrestling and more, there are plenty of events happening this month.

Here is some of what’s happening in the Timmins area:

Jason Wilson and the Perennials and the TSO

Saturday, April 7, 8 p.m.

Ecole secondaire catholique Theriault

The Timmins Symphony Orchestra will be sharing the stage with Jason Wilson and the Perennials for this fundraising concert.  Tickets are $30 and available at the Timmins Museum.

Northern Ontario Handmade Market

April 14, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

McIntyre Community Centre auditorium, 85 McIntyre Rd.

This new market has nearly 30 handmade vendors, featuring everything from photography and artisans, to home décor, knit and sewn items, pottery, stained glass and more.

Beer Fest

April 14, 1 – 8 p.m.

McIntyre Curling Club

The Timmins Festival and Events Committee is hoppy about this new fundraiser for Rock on the River. Along with Ontario craft beers, there will be local food and musicians. Tickets are available at TimminsFestivals.com.

Timmins Comicon

April 21-22

McIntyre Curling Rink

In its eighth year, there are more than 40 exhibitors and programming lined up, including a kids’ zone, cosplay corner, photo booth, and more.

17th Annual Northern College Traditional Powwow

April 21-22

Northern College

This year’s theme is Remembering and Honouring our Sisters and Brothers. The grand entry is Saturday at noon in the gym.

Timmins Professional Firefighters Association vs. TDH Doctors Code Blue

Sunday, April 22, 6:30 p.m.

Sportsplex

This charity hockey game is benefitting Lydia Allard, a two-year-old girl with the rare congenital neuromuscular disorder Nemaline Rod Myopathy. Entry is $5 per person. There will also be a silent auction, and the chance to shoot the puck to win a side-by-side.

Gold Rush, Live Pro Wrestling

Saturday, April 28, 7 p.m.

Ecole Secondaire Catholique Theriault

Wrestling is returning to town, with the main tag team event putting Jake O’Reilly and Tyler Tirva up against Tornado and a mystery partner. The event is in support of the DARE Timmins Leadership Camp and Theriault Wrestling Team. Tickets are $20 for ring side or $15 for general admission. They are available at Alfie’s Cigar Store, Wicked Stuff, or online here. The event is also being broadcast live on Eastlink.

Porcupine Mall Craft and Vendor Show

Friday, April 27 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Sunday, April 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
