Earthquakes Canada is confirming a 1.6 magnitude event in Timmins this morning.
The small blast happened 8:49 a.m. today (May 18) at surface.
"A 'blast' indicates that it is a manmade event and not naturally occurring activity. It could be several different sources including construction, mining, etc," said Stephen Crane, Canada Hazards Information Service research scientist.
The event was felt across the city. There was also a loud boom.
The City of Timmins reported on Facebook that it was due to construction on Pine Street South near the Deloro Landfill site. It is not a city construction project.
