Early years centre like a second home for family

Timmins centre celebrates National Child Day

Since Kaytlan Lascelle’s daughter was born three years ago, the Ontario Early Years Centre has been a regular part of their routine.

She started by bringing her daughter Audrey to Rock and Talk and she’s completed almost all the programs since then.

“She feels secure because she knows the staff,” Lascelle said. “It’s almost become like a second home.”

Today, Audrey was excited to eat cupcakes and parade through the building with her classmates as part of the celebrations for National Child Day.

The day marks Canada’s signing of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“We all have the duty to make sure our children are safe and nurtured and have everything needed to reach their full potential,” said Rachele Pelletier, OEYC and Brighter Future co-ordinator.

At the OEYC in Timmins, located at 707 Ross Ave. E., more than 50 people stopped by to participate in the celebration.

With this year’s theme being a child’s right to be safe, the kids decorated flags with different rights that they have, such as the right to food, safety or education. The celebration also included interactive games, crafts, dancing, singing and playing in an inflatable bouncer.
