During the early morning hours of Friday, November 1, Timmins Police officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Algonquin Blvd. E and Highway 655 involving two pick-up trucks.
An investigation into the collision revealed that a pick-up truck traveling westbound on Algonquin Blvd. E failed to stop at a red light and was struck by a vehicle turning north onto Highway 655. The westbound vehicle was carrying explosive material which spilled out onto the road; however the Timmins Fire Department was on scene and quickly cleared the spilled material. Early-morning commuters were diverted for a short period of time.
The driver of the westbound pick-up truck was charged with fail to stop at a red light. There were no injuries as a result of the collision. With rain and snow expected in the coming weeks, the Timmins Police Service urges all drivers to use extra caution and adjust driving speeds according to weather conditions. Drivers are also reminded to be aware of other vehicles when approaching an intersection and utilize all mirrors to check their surroundings.
