EACOM Timber Corporation has made a $15,000 donation to the Orange Shirt Society.

A Timmins forestry company made a big donation for the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

EACOM Timber Corporation has donated $15,000 to the Orange Shirt Society.

“For the last two years, EACOM has been a proud participant of Orange Shirt Day, helping to raise awareness on the history of the residential school system and its impact on Indigenous communities, as well as buying orange t-shirts for our employees,” said Kevin Edgson, President and CEO of EACOM, in a news release.

“This year, we wanted to enhance our support by making a donation directly to the cause.”

The company announced the donation on Sept. 30, which was Orange Shirt Day and the first federal statutory holiday to honour truth and reconciliation. Along with the donation, the company encouraged its employees and partners to take part in awareness events.

"Active in responsible stewardship of public forests in Ontario and Quebec, EACOM has taken a proactive approach to building meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with the communities whose traditional territories it operates within. The company recently began the process of getting a certification with the Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) standard - a program by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB)," reads the news release.
