SOUTH PORCUPINE - The Ontario Provincial Police is urging motorists to drive safe as Canada Day marks the first long weekend of the summer.

Warmer weather and longer days means more people are getting out enjoying outdoor activities on our highways, waterways, trails and Provincial Parks. The summer is an ideal time to relish the outdoors, however all activities need to be conducted in a safe and responsible manner.

This upcoming weekend the OPP will be focusing on aggressive driving and the Big 4 which include; impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding and lack of seatbelt use. Alcohol, drugs, aggressive driving behaviour and distracted driving continue to be contributing factors in many preventable tragedies.

"Be mindful of your personal safety and that of others during this upcoming weekend" says Staff Sergeant Dan Foy, Detachment Commander. "Whether you're in a car, on a boat, ATV or motorcycle; remember to always wear your seatbelt, life jacket or helmet"

The OPP is committed to ensuring safe highways and communities for all Ontarians.
