KIRKLAND LAKE -  On Friday June 26, 2015 members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment will be running in the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, sponsored by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Torch Run is celebrating its 29th anniversary this year.

The run will start at the Northern College entrance at 10 a.m.

The first leg of the run will proceed to Smitty’s Restaurant in King Kirkland, at which time those wishing to participate in the 5 kilometer run starting from Smitty’s  will proceed back to Northern college with the 10 kilometer runners.

Participants wishing to complete the last leg of the run will then join the 5, and 10 kilometer runners at Northern College, finishing at Pettenuzzo’s Independent Grocer on McChesney Avenue in Kirkland Lake.

This year, law enforcement runners are striving to build on the $2,700 raised in 2014.

You can help by calling the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or (705) 567-5355 and making a donation to the Adopt-A-Cop program.

Anyone wishing to participate can run, jog, walk or bike.

Pledge sheets can be found and t-shirts supporting the run can be purchased at the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment.

A fundraising barbecue will be held after the run at Pettenuzzo’s Independent Grocer

All funds raised across the province help provide a local year-round program of fitness, recreation and competition for the athletes.
