NEWS RELEASE

TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

*************************
The Timmins Police Service is making a public appeal to Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operators in the South Porcupine area for compliance with the use of “truck routes”.

A number of complaints have been received by Timmins Police in regards to CMV operators driving log trucks, using streets in South Porcupine that are not part of the designated truck route system.

These tractor trailers are being operated in residential neighbourhoods and school zones which is contrary to the safety intent of the truck route system.

In particular, these operators are using Main Street, Crawford Street, Moore Street and other residential streets in South Porcupine to join up with Langmuir Road and proceed to forestry operations south of the city.

The established route is to take Highway 101 to the Bruce Y and then take Golden Avenue to re-acquire access to Langmuir Road.

The Timmins Police Section – Traffic Section would much rather educate than prosecute operators found to be in violation of the established by-laws.

The onus of knowing and respecting the use of the truck routes in and around Timmins lies on the individual tractor trailer operator.
