Disturbing long weekend in Timmins, say police

​The Timmins Police Service have compiled the traffic related statistics for the Victoria Day long weekend and the numbers are distressing.

The period measured ran from May 17 until the 23 for all roadways protected by the Timmins Police Service.

A total of three Impaired Driving offences, either involving alcohol or drugs, resulted in Criminal Code charges.

One person had their driver’s licence suspended due to the readings of a screening device test.

A total of 50 aggressive driving charges were laid during this time period. The offences that are deemed to be “aggressive“ include 43 speeding offences, one follow too close,

Two fail to yield and four use hand held device while driving.

In addition 13 seat belt offences resulted in charge and another eight charges were laid in relation to insurance violations.

A total of 52 other provincial offences resulted in charges.

The Timmins Police Service reminds motorists that true roadway safety is achieved through a partnership between law enforcement and the motoring public.

The Timmins Police Service devotes significant manpower and resources to increasing road safety; the motoring public must do their part by driving attentively and in a responsible fashion.
