Sweet treats cooked up a successful fundraiser for DARE Timmins.

Tim Hortons' 2019 Smile Cookie campaign raised $29,956 for the local program run by Timmins Police and South Porcupine OPP.

“I’d really like to say a special thank you to the Tim Hortons workers because $29,000 means 29,000 cookies. I don’t know home many dozen cookies that works out to, but that’s a lot of cookies that somebody has to prepare and serve,” said Timmins Police Const. Bill Field, who helps deliver the program.

The cash will help buy supplies and teaching materials, and support the DARE camp held in the summer.

“It really allows us to really enhance our program for the youth in our community. We’ve been doing this for 20 years, we service every student in Grade 6 and Grade 8 in both official languages with all four school boards,” Field said, who also thanked the community for being so supportive of the initiative.

To raise the money, Smile Cookies were sold at the Timmins Tim Hortons locations Sept. 16-22.

Nationally, the annual campaign raised a record $9.8 million for 550 charities, hospitals and community groups. The previous record for the campaign was $7.8 million in 2018.
