The Timmins Police Service is completing its investigation into an incident involving a cyclist being intentionally struck by a vehicle driver.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (July 20) evening at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Maple Street North.

A woman driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with a male passenger is alleged to have followed a female cyclist for a considerable distance.

At one point struck her with her vehicle causing her to fall to the ground.

An altercation followed the collision and eventually ended when the driver and passenger fled the scene in the vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries in the course of the altercation.

Based on the investigation undertaken by the Timmins Police Service, Valerie Michaud, 20, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Assault with a Weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

  • One count of Dangerous Driving contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

  • One count of Fail To Remain contrary to section 2252 of the Criminal Code of Canada

  • Three counts of Breach of Peace Bond contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, Michael Boucher, 32, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • One count of Assault with a Weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Both subjects were held in custody and had bail hearings this afternoon at Provincial Court in Timmins, where they were released on strict conditions and a court date of August 2.
