Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSPNE) says Simon Fecteau is retiring as its director of education, effective Sept. 30, 2021.

Fecteau was appointed to the role in May 2015.

"It is clear that he has played an important role for public schools and the School Board," reads the release announcing the move.

He began his teaching career in 1992 in Iroquois Falls and then joined the École publique Lionel-Gauthier team in 1994.  A year later, he moved to École publique Renaissance where he occupied several positions of responsibility over the years, including home-room teacher, student council guide, guidance counsellor and vice-principal.

Denis Labelle, chair, congratulated Fecteau.

"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to acknowledge his commitment and dedication as an educator and administrator as he has greatly contributed to the development of the CSPNE and its schools while prioritizing the learning and success of all students and staff," he said in the statement.

Since Aug. 1, Fecteau has been working closely with Yves Laliberté, who has been hired as associate director of education, to ensure a smooth transition with regards to respecting the organizational culture of the CSPNE.  Laliberté will take over the role on Oct. 1, 2021.
