A brilliant sunny, winter afternoon was perfect for taking a hike along the snow covered trails at Hersey Lake Conservation Area.

Many did just that on Sunday as they toured the snow-ladened trails to stretch their legs and admire winter’s natural beauty.

The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority and their partners, the Wintergreen Fund for Conservation and the Timmins Naturalists, hosted the 5th annual Winter Hiking Day event.

As part of the Winter Hiking Day event, a winter survival presentation from Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue was featured.

A “winter ecology” guided hike was offered as a great way to learn about how plants and animals adapt to our Northern Ontario winter.

For those who completed the winter hike, a warm cup of hot chocolate and a roaring fire greeted them at the end.
