COVID-related death reported in Timiskaming

A COVID-19 related death has been reported in the Timiskaming area.

The Timiskaming Health Unit, which covers from Kirkland Lake to the Temagami area, confirmed today that a woman in her 70s has died from complications of her COVID-19 infection. No further details are being released out of respect for the family, according to the news release.

This is the third COVID-related death in the region since the start of the pandemic. 

"This is a tragic reminder of how deadly COVID-19 can be and we mourn the member of our community who has passed away," said Dr. Glenn Corneil, acting medical officer of health and CEO for the Timiskaming Health Unit, in a statement.

To date in the Timiskaming region there have been 237 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, 229 are resolved and three people have died. There are five known active cases.
