COVID-19 exposure advisory issued for Timmins flight

People on a flight out of Timmins a week ago may have been exposed to COVID-19.

The Porcupine Health Unit has issued a potential exposure advisory has been issued for people on the 11:40 a.m. Sunday, April, 18 Air Canada flight AC8284 from Timmins to Toronto.

People who sat in rows nine to 13 must self-isolate immediately and call their local health unit. Other people on the flight are asked to self-monitor.

Typical COVID-19 symptoms are:

  • fever
  • new or worsening cough
  • shortness of breath 
  • loss of sense of smell or taste 
  • sore throat or hoarse voice 
  • difficulty swallowing 
  • runny nose or nasal congestion 
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain 

Atypical symptoms are:

  • unexplained fatigue or malaise 
  • muscle aches
  • delirium
  • unexplained or increased number of falls 
  • acute functional decline 
  • exacerbation of current chronic conditions 
  • chills 
  • headaches 
  • croup 
  • conjuctivitis

So far today, one new COVID-19 case has been reported in Timmins.

To date, the health unit has reported 560 confirmed cases of the virus. As of Friday, there had been 432 recoveries and 26 people have died. While the health unit reports new cases on the weekends, the number of new local recoveries is not updated.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
