Timmins council is back in action tonight.

The group's virtual meeting starts tonight at 6 p.m.

Here are some items to keep an eye on:

  • Mayor George Pirie is slated to give an update on Mount Jamieson Resort. There is no report with the agenda item, however, the motions of council include an item to write off a $153,000 loan. Back in 2019 the resort, then known as Kamiskotia Snow Resort, asked council for a $160,000 grant to cover the resort's tax arrears. That process revealed that the resort also owed the city $153,000 from a 2006 loan for $180,000. As of September 2019, the city had only received three payments of $9,000 from 2013-15.
  • The Golden Manor redevelopment could be moving on to the next stage. Council is being asked to approve the schematic design and proceed to the design development phase. The new 192-bed, three-storey facility will be built on the same property just north of the current building. The current schematic design is about  $3.7 million more than the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's proposed budget for the project, according to the report. The full report is available here
  • The city is looking to extend infrastructure services on St. Jean Avenue to allow for 11 industrial lots to be sold for future development. Staff is recommending having Belanger Construction do the work for $3.89 million. The work includes installing a new watermain, sewermain and storm watermains, as well as conduits and new light standards. "This contract also includes new sidewalk and asphalt paving which will be completed in 2022 under a separate contract," reads the staff report. The full report is available here.
  • Selling surplus lands could make way for a new tourist establishment. Staff is recommending selling a Highway 101 East lot to Escape from Reality for $16,500. "The tourist establishment will offer overnight accommodations as well as meals," reads the report
