TimminsToday received the following letter from Connaught and District Historical Society president Rheal Dupuis. New displays are being added to the museum, which is anticipated to be open this summer. The full letter is as follows:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Connaught & District Historical Society has held back in adding new displays at the museum. Our main goal was to cover the monthly operation cost during these uncertain times.

The Connaught & District Pioneer Museum opened in 2010 and has been kept in operation by mostly doing various fundraising events, such as monthly breakfast, beef dinner, BBQ and penny sales etc.

Like many other organizations, COVID-19 put a stop on this fundraising, therefore putting our organization’s future in jeopardy.

If not for the continuing support of the Timmins Charitable Gaming at Jackpot City and the OLG, we would not have been able to cover these costs.

This partnership has made it possible to continue operating the museum for our community and surrounding areas and help preserve our past.

With an anticipated summer opening of the museum, new displays are being added to showcase of our history of Connaught and area, which includes Barber’s Bay, McIntosh Spring, Night Hawk, Hoyle and Dugwall.

By following all guidelines set by the Porcupine Health Unit, we hope to once again open our doors to the public.

On behalf of all board members

Rheal Dupuis

President
