The governments of Canada and Ontario are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to better community services and modern and up-to-date community infrastructure that meet their needs.

These investments safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protects and preserves the vital local infrastructure while laying the foundation for new economic opportunities to strengthen the middle class across the province.

Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, today announced on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, that a new project in Gogama has been approved under the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Waste Water Fund.

The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of funding for this project—$5,750. The provincial government is providing $2,875 and Gogama will provide the balance of funding. This project is essential to keeping our waterways clean and our communities healthy and livable.

Additionally, MP Serré announced a total investment of $9,064 through the federal Gas Tax Fund for Gogama. The GTF funding supports hundreds of local infrastructure projects that address the most pressing needs of local residents and businesses, from improving drinking water to building new recreational facilities.

Thanks to these investments, residents of Gogama will benefit from monitoring equipment upgrades at their water distribution building as well as long-term funding to help ensure access to good middle class jobs, increased mobility, greater economic opportunities, sustainable communities and a high quality of life.

As this year marks Gogama’s 100th birthday, this funding will deliver infrastructure projects that will strengthen and grow the middle class as well as help the community build strong foundations that allow its residents to thrive, excel and innovate.

Quotes

“This funding is particularly special as Gogama celebrates its 100th birthday this year! The residents of this small but strong community work hard to ensure submissions to all levels of Government are made so they are able to improve upon their many strengths. They are a proud community and know the value of living is such a beautiful environment rich in natural resources and stunning scenery. I look forward to future opportunities to work with community leaders and strive for positive results. Happy 100th birthday Gogama!”
