College signs celebrating grads

Students encouraged to take them home, take selfies

Close to 30 lawn signs have been put up in front of Collège Boréal in recognition of its graduates.

Although there was no typical graduation this year due to COVID-19, installing the signs was one of the ways to celebrate students’ achievements, said Timmins campus director Mélanie Dufresne.

“It’s really important our graduates have recognition of all their accomplishments and successes that they’ve been working so hard in the past to obtain,” she said. “We’re really, really proud of all our graduates and we wish them well in their careers moving forward.”

Graduates are welcome to come and pick up a sign with their name and take it home. They’re also encouraged to take a photo and post it on social media using #Boreal2020.

The initiative also took place on other Collège Boréal's campuses like in Sudbury, Kapuskasing and Nipissing.

Dufresne said graduates have already received their diplomas and a musical card that plays a Pomp and Circumstance song. The college also provided over 30 bursaries to its graduating students.

The college also conducted a province-wide survey and the majority of graduates voted to wait and have in-person graduation next year, Dufresne said.
