Join us for the third annual Evening of Applause to celebrate our community’s outstanding role models in the field of human rights and anti-discrimination at Collège Boréal on Mar. 29 From 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
The evening includes awards for the Student who Make a Difference and anti-discrimination artwork contest, the induction to the City of Timmins Human Rights Wall of Fame, entertainment from our local schools as well as special performances from our cultural groups.
It will be the culmination of months of awareness raising and the promotion of acceptance in schools and in the broader community. The event is free and all are invited to attend. It all takes place in the Collège Boréal cafeteria.
The event is in conjunction with the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination for Racial Discrimination (IDERD) which takes place around the world on Mar. 21 each year.
This will be the third year for this project to be celebrated in Timmins. The project aims to recognize those who have demonstrated leadership in human rights or anti-discrimination activities locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.
The Human Rights Wall of Fame selection committee has named Jim Chalmers from a strong pool of nominees as the 2017 inductee.
Photos of inducted members of the Human Rights Wall of Fame are displayed near the main entrance to the Timmins Public Library/ CHMA Building, which has been generously sponsored by the City of Timmins.
The event is organized by a planning committee representing the Université de Hearst, Collège Boréal, District School Board Ontario North East, Conseil Scolaire Public du nord-est de l'Ontario, Northeastern Catholic District School Board, Conseil Scolaire Catholique de District des Grandes-Rivières, Northern College, Timmins Local Immigration Partnership, Timmins & District Multicultural Centre, Algoma University, Cochrane District Social Planning Council and the City of Timmins.
