Last week, Collège Boréal announced the winners of its Awards of Excellence for the 2017-2018 academic year. Four members of Boréal’s staff were honoured for their outstanding commitment to students and to our institutional values of excellence, humanism, inclusion, innovation and respect.
College staff members were encouraged to submit nominations highlighting the accomplishments and contributions of their colleagues. Nominations were evaluated according to the following criteria: results achieved, contribution to the college’s strategic objectives and demonstration of the college’s values.
An advisory committee was tasked with recommending four candidates for awards among a list drawn from all of Collège Boréal’s campuses and sites. Awards were presented to members of support staff, teachers, administrators and temporary personnel.
Here are the winners, described by short excerpts from their nomination forms.
Temporary staff – Lise Kozlovich, part-time teacher, School of Health Sciences, Kapuskasing
“Lise is committed to ensuring the success of Collège Boréal. She gives of her time generously and is always available to help students and staff from various campuses. Caring, modest, reliable and honest, Lise has an endearing personality that radiates positive and inspiring energy among everyone who has the pleasure of working alongside her.”
Support staff – Rose Kana, agent, Development Office, Sudbury
Rose is extremely well liked by her colleagues. She never fails to support her team members and students with a lovely smile and boundless patience. She devotes herself generously without expecting anything in return. She is patient and kind with her clients and helps them to take charge of their goals in an encouraging way. She also makes time for causes that are dear to her heart, including autism, Down’s syndrome, international students, students in need, and the families and children of our students. The quality of her work is a reflection of her quest for excellence in all her endeavours, both professional and personal.
Teaching staff – Marc Hébert, professor/coordinator, School of Trades and Applied Technologies, Sudbury
“With his passion for his field and his devotion to the success of his students and the quality of his program, as well as his good sense of humour, Marc builds good working relationships. He is proud of his Métis roots and is very active in indigenous community projects, including our Indigenous Committee. Over the years, he has also served as lead researcher in many projects involving businesses, college staff and especially students, giving them the opportunity to acquire new skills and land good jobs.”
Administrative Staff – Jean Cotnoir, director – Marketing and Liaison, Sudbury
“His creativity, his expertise and his faith in his colleagues are among the qualities which have allowed his team and the College to excel. Jean Cotnoir displays an exceptional level of commitment to the College. He loves his work and is always ready to roll up his sleeves to advance the College’s interests. He is very creative, always looking for new ideas and able to transform them into innovative projects that benefit the college. With Jean, nothing is impossible.”

Established in 1995, Collège Boréal is a French language post-secondary training and learning institution dedicated to the development and growth of communities throughout the province.
Collège Boréal offers a wide variety of programs and services at six campuses and 38 access centres in 28 communities throughout the province. Since 1995, approximately 120,000 clients across Ontario have benefited from Collège Boréal’s expertise relating to post-secondary education, training programs, immigration and settlement services, as well as employment services. Furthermore, Collège Boréal has developed and implemented over 70 articulation agreements with other post- secondary institutions.
According to the Key Performance Indicators recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, Collège Boréal now holds the top-ranking position in three of the five areas surveyed!
Out of 24 Ontario colleges, Boréal has the highest student satisfaction rate, graduation rate, and graduate satisfaction rate in the province. Moreover, at 96 per cent, Boréal ranks 3rd in the province for employer satisfaction!
