Local guild invites would-be novelists to participate in international challenge
About 81 percent of people say they want to write a book, but most would-be novelists never actually write a whole story from beginning to end. National Novel Writing Month was created to battle this epidemic.
National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo, is an annual challenge where writers around the globe attempt to write 50,000 words each in November, thereby completing their first draft of a novel.
This year, the Silverleaf Writers Guild will once again be participating in NaNoWriMo. On October 30, the guild will be holding an open house style launch event at the Timmins Public Library.
Those interested in learning more about NaNoWriMo are encouraged to drop-in between 1 and 3 p.m. to find out how to participate throughout the month of November. All NaNoWriMo events all month long will be absolutely free.
To help potential writers prepare for National Novel Writing Month, the Silverleaf Writers Guild will also be hosting a free workshop called “Brainstorming and Outlining Your Novel” on October 19 at the Timmins Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m.
The workshop will help each writer:
- brainstorm a novel idea
- draft a novel outline
- prepare to overcome common challenges writers experience during NaNoWriMo
The Silverleaf Writers Guild also has room for participants outside of Timmins to participate via videoconference. Those living in surrounding communities who can’t make it in person are encouraged to reach out and make arrangements with the guild.
