COCHRANE - The Government of Canada is investing $792,500 to support infrastructure and business growth, while positioning the Town of Cochrane as a tourism destination of choice for outdoor enthusiasts.

The FedNor funding will support three strategic initiatives that will help create middle-class jobs and a strong economy for Cochrane and surrounding areas (see attached backgrounder).

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made the announcement today during a multi-stop tour of the region.

The supported projects will strengthen the community’s social and economic competitiveness, while improving key tourism and community assets.

These initiatives also support Canada's Federal Tourism Strategy by establishing a collection of activities and experiences that encourage domestic and international tourists to extend their visits, thus creating additional opportunities for local businesses.
