Care bags aim to bring a 'little cheer' to patients

124 reusable totes were recently dropped off for people receiving chemotherapy at the Timmins hospital

People in the local oncology ward will be receiving a special gift.

Independent Thirty-One consultants Carrie Sullivan, Sheri Beaudin and Jodi Lachance recently donated 124 Chemo Care Bags to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation.

Each thermal tote is reusable and filled with a variety of items such as tissues, bottled water, note pads and more. While the bags are usually geared to women, the team included options for anyone receiving chemotherapy at the Timmins hospital.

"We are beyond thrilled to be able to run this fundraiser again after the two years of COVID lockdowns. Our customers are always extremely generous with their donations towards this event and we could not do it without them. Cancer has touched all of us in different ways and if we can bring a little cheer to these patients then mission accomplished," said Sullivan in a news release.

This donation is a third-party fundraiser for the hospital foundation.

“We never underestimate the power of our local independent businesses; their passion for success drives the spirit to help their community. The foundation is grateful for the support we get from our business community,” said Barb McCormick, TADHF donor relations manager.
