A car wash this weekend is once again helping the family of a Timmins High and Vocational School student.

A couple years ago, the school rallied behind Braedyn Johnstone after we has diagnosed with cancer. While he was in remission, principal Greg Vincze said the cancer is back.

“He’s been back at school since the beginning of the year, so we were obviously very positive, very happy,” he said.

Timmins High staff found out about the recurrence Monday and by Tuesday decided they would hold another car wash to support the Johnstones.

“The community’s been fantastic, as soon as it was up on Facebook and shared with everybody people were calling us left, right and centre donating hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, toppings,” said Vincze.

The car wash is running Saturday, Dec. 7 at Timmins High from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be in the shops at the back of the school.

Vincze said students will be taking orders for food while people are waiting for their vehicles to be washed.

“We’re hoping that it will go faster this time because we’re getting more pressure washers,” he said.

The cost for the car wash is a donation.

Because everything has been donated, Vincze said 100 per cent of the donations will go to the family.

While they haven't set an official fundraising goal, the last event raised $12,000.

“We’re hoping to match or better that,” he said.

If you can't make it to Saturday's event, but want to help out donations will be accepted at the main office of the high school during regular school hours next week.
