In support of research and services in your community!

TIMMINS, ON - Canadian Cancer Society  introduced an inaugural event called Tree of Hope. Light a bulb to support our mission to find the cure!  We hope to raise $2,500 by receiving donations for 500 lights.  What a beautiful way to honor and/or remember loved ones at the holidays! The Canadian Cancer Society is excited to partner with several local businesses to bring a wonderful holiday experience to our community.  In a couple of weeks’ time, we will be installing a gorgeous towering spruce tree at the Hollinger Park and filling it with lights.  Supporters will be given the opportunity to make a $5.00 donation per light in honor or memory of someone who has been affected by cancer.  This campaign will run from today and throughout the holiday season. Donations can be made by debit, credit card, cash or cheque at our office at 273 Third Ave. Suite 101; over the phone by credit card at 705-264-7434 or at the Timmins Square gift wrapping center from December 18th until December 24th.   A tree lighting ceremony has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 21st at 7 p.m., where we will light the entire tree at once.  Everyone is welcome! Our generous sponsors are Ken Pye of Tree Bandit, SMS Rents, Dan Racicot Electric, United Supply Group of Companies, City of Timmins and Daniel Emile Dicaire  who has donated the donor prize.  We are currently working with several local businesses who will be donating lights.

DONOR PRIZE   Mr. Dicaire is a very talented wood worker who also happens to be a cancer survivor.  Over the years he has made various items and donated them to the Trillium Lodge in Sudbury where he stayed while undergoing treatment.  The lodge raffled these items off to help support their programming.  We have been fortunate enough to receive a similar gift from Mr. Dicaire in the form of a charming wooden train set which is on display at our office.  This train set will be the donor prize.  We will randomly select a winner from the names of all donors in this campaign. The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is to eradicate cancer and to enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer.
