Bus passes will soon be available in South Porcupine

'Sometimes we don’t have to spend $2 million. Sometimes if we can help 10-15 people, make their lives a little bit easier with a simple resolution — that’s what we’re here for. We don’t have to hit three-run homeruns every night,' says councillor

If you're hopping on transit and need a bus pass, there's a new spot to pick one up.

Timmins Transit passes are going to be sold at the C.M. Shields Centennial Library in South Porcupine. Timmins council approved the new sales location at its May 30 meeting. It will likely be a few weeks before the library can start selling the passes because they need to get the equipment in place.

“Sometimes we don’t have to spend $2 million. Sometimes if we can help 10-15 people, make their lives a little bit easier with a simple resolution — that’s what we’re here for. We don’t have to hit three-run homeruns every night,” said Coun. Bill Gvozdanovic, who brought the issue to council's attention.

Coun. John Curley said it's good news for the area.

“There’s no location in South Porcupine and now there will be,” he said.

There will be a six- and 12-month review of the program to see how sales are going, said Coun. Andrew Marks, who also sits on the Timmins Public Library board.
