Events are lined up to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD).

The annual day is on March 21 and Timmins Together has events lined up throughout the week.

Tomorrow (March 19), there is a proclamation in the Timmins Public Library foyer in front of the Human Rights Wall of Fame at 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, March 20 there is a reading of the book The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson at the Timmins Public Library. The French reading is at 9:15 a.m. and the English reading is at 10:15 a.m. It will be broadcast to primary classes in the four local school boards.

Monique Perreault from Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l'Ontario is presenting both sessions. She's bringing a drum and will also perform a song with the students and explain the significance of the drum.

The second annual Timmins Together IDERD symposium is on Thursday, March 21 at College Boreal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The theme focuses on the urgency of combatting racism and racial discrimination. It's free to attend. People can register here.
