A boil water advisory has been issued for the Town of Chapleau.

The advisory is effective immediately and is the result of an adverse water sample reported today, said Public Health Sudbury & Districts.

“This boil water advisory is being issued as a precautionary measure, and it is not believed that anyone who has consumed this water will experience any ill health effects,” said Burgess Hawkins, a manager in Public Health’s Health Protection Division, in a news release.

Under a boil water advisory, people should not use water from the municipal system for drinking; making juice, infant formula or ice; cooking; washing uncooked fruit and vegetables; or brushing teeth unless the water has been brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute first. Water can be used for laundry and bathing, except for small children who could swallow it.

Town operators have started water sampling. The advisory is in place until bacteriological testing of the water indicates the supply is safe.
