QUEEN’S PARK – In question period on Thursday, Timmins NDP MPP Gilles Bisson pressed the Ford government to move ahead with the regulation of the price of gas in the province.

Bisson put forward Bill 7, Fairness in Petroleum Products Pricing Act, 2018, which passed second reading in September. The bill has yet to be called in committee by the Ford government.

Bisson said the province needs to regulate the price of gas to protect families at the pump.

“We go to the pumps to fill our cars and trucks and we get gouged every time we go. If you go to Southern Ontario, you pay 40 cents less for gas than you do in places like Thunder Bay. If you live in Kiiwetinoong, you’re probably going to pay an additional dollar”

“The Ford government claiming they are responsible for lowering the price of gas is laughable” said Bisson. “We know what happened to the price of gas -- it was the winter blend that came online. All across Canada, the price has come down. It’s part of what happens every season.”

“If you really want to stand up for people at the pumps, will you allow our bill that we have in committee now, to be called so we can bring relief to people at the pumps?” asked Bisson.
