Audience encouraged to have fun at holiday play (3 photos)

Take Two Theatre performances run November 24-26

Get out your fedoras and pin curl your hair to go out and watch Take Two Theatre's holiday production.

The Timmins theatre troupe is performing It's A Wonderful Life: A Radio Play by Joe Landry at William Dawson Theatre at Timmins High and Vocational School Nov. 24-26.

At the performances, the audience will be watching a live radio play unfold on stage. Along with the radio stars, the Jingle Belles perform 1946 commercials, and there is a Foley artist using a myriad of tools to create live sound effects.

"He continues to do the sound even through the dialogue so it becomes the background," director Lynn Deiulis explained.

Normally for live performances, she said there is an imaginary fourth wall between the audience and the actors. For this holiday show, everyone gets to participate.

"We are breaking the fourth wall all over the place in this play," she said. "I just want people to come and have fun."

That means if you want to dress in 1940s attire (think pencil skirts and fedoras) it's encouraged.

This is the first time Deiulis has been in the director's chair.

Auditioning for community theatre was on her bucket list, so she crossed it off in 2014.

When she got the part in Take Two Theatre's Murder Afoot she laughs that she didn't know what to do because her bucket list was merely to audition.

She first saw It's A Wonderful Life: A Radio Play down south and had a lot of fun at the performance.

With the right people supporting her vision, she said directing the production has been an amazing experience.

"These guys have just been amazing, doing everything I ask of them, I've got a really good cast," she said.

To help get the actors in character, they've even been doing a little community outreach,

With the permission of the play's author, the cast has performed scenes at the Golden Manor and Extendicare.

Because the residents remember these kind of radio shows, it was Deiulis' dream to bring some of the joy to them.

Performances are Nov. 24 and Nov. 25 at 7 p.m., and matinee shows Nov. 25 and Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available at the Timmins Square, Black Spruce Gallery, Porcupine Pro Hardware, and at the door. Tickets for children under 12 years at the matinee performances are $10.

The cast is:

Michael Damini, who plays radio announcer Freddie Filmore.

Devan Jones, who plays Jake Laurents.

Mits Takayesu-Douglas, who plays Harry 'Jazzbo' Heywood.

Nate Elliott, who is the Foley artist.

Cassandra Lamarche, who plays Lana Sherwood.

Naomi Howard, who plays Sally Applewhite.

Natalie Levesque, Natalie Carriere, and Amber Carbonneau, who play the Jingle Belles under the direction of Maureen Haas.

Mike Cartan, the production's stage manager.
