Athletes, officers take part in annual walk

'These athletes are our ambassadors of fair play, competitive achievement and the stewardship of positive engagement and awareness,' say police

Dozens of people showed up for an annual walk this week.

The Timmins Police hosted the Law Enforcement Torch Run on Monday afternoon. It featured about 40 local Special Olympians, Timmins Police officers, South Porcupine OPP and correctional officers from the Monteith Correctional Centre.

"This event is an annual undertaking focused on raising public awareness about Special Olympics as well as promoting recent achievements by our local Special Olympians and their steadfast dedication to their sport and representing our community at various regional provincial and national venues," said police in a news release.
