Clifford man resists arrest, say police

Faces charges of assault, resist arrest, property damage, uttering threats and harassing communications

KIRKLAND LAKE - On July 15, 2019, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault in Virginiatown, Ont.

Police arrived to the scene and completed an investigation. As a result, Leroy Leyen, age 53, of Clifford, Ont. was arrested. During the arrest Leyen became actively resistant and assaultive.

He was charged with the following:  

  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm (3 counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Uttering Threats -Damage Property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Assault a Peace Officer (2 counts), contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Harassing Communications, contrary to section 372(3) of the CC.

The accused was remanded into custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 17, 2019, in Temiskaming Shores.
