The first step toward creating an arts and culture council is happening this week,

A meeting at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre Friday, June 15 at 1 p.m. will discuss terms of reference for the council.

“Anybody is welcome to join,” said Kesley Luxton, communications co-ordinator for the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, which has partnered with the museum to facilitate the conversation.

This week’s meeting came about after arts and culture roundtables were held in early May.

Luxton said there was a solid turnout at the meetings and they decided on different projects to create more opportunities to sell, exhibit or perform. To move forward those ideas, she said, they need a committee.

“This is for anyone interested in the arts, be it music, theatre, visual arts, crafts, multi-media, etc. We’re going to go through the terms of reference at this meeting and possibly vote on some board members,” she said.
