On Sept. 4, 2017, police responded to a break, enter and theft which had occurred at the Mushkegowuk Council office located on Birch St. S. in Timmins. An investigation was initiated by officers from the Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit, as well as patrol officers.
Investigation revealed that the building had been accessed both Sept. 2, and Sept. 3, with multiple valuables being taken including numerous laptops, tablets, a flat-screen television and Canadian currency. Fortunately, police were able to recover many of the items stolen in this break and enter, as well as other stolen goods including electronics and tools.
As a result of this incident, two individuals have been arrested and charged. Dominic Scott, 28, of Timmins faces charges of break, enter and commit theft over $5,000, and trafficking in stolen property under $5,000. He also faces additional charges from a separate incident including theft from a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a schedule I substance. Scott was held in custody pending his future court date of Oct. 10, 2017.
Joseph Steed, 36, of Timmins faces charges of break, enter and commit indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000. Additionally, he faces charges from a separate incident including trespassing at night, personation with intent to avoid arrest, possession of a schedule II substance, and breach of probation. Steed was held in custody pending a video remand date of Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.
