TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

Operation Impact is an annual campaign taking place over the Thanksgiving weekend, with the goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

This year, Operation Impact will take place from October 9-12, 2015, a weekend where many will travel to visit loved ones.

The Timmins Police Service will once again be participating in Operation Impact, with officers undertaking traffic initiatives over the weekend to ensure Timmins drivers are educated in safe driving practices.

The focus will be on the “Big Four” behaviours that put drivers, passengers, and other road users at risk: distracted driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving, and seat belt use.

The Timmins Police Service is one of many agencies across the country participating in Operation Impact.

“Police agencies across the country are collaborating on this project because they have seen more than enough pain and broken hearts from carelessness behind the wheel,” explained Timmins Police Chief John Gauthier. “We continue to participate in this initiative every year because we know that the involvement and cooperation of all drivers is essential in achieving safer streets.”

Last year, 1,056 motor vehicle collisions were reported in the City of Timmins.

Many of these collisions are preventable, which is why, in support of Operation Impact, officers will be conducting targeted enforcement over the Thanksgiving weekend, with the focus on dangerous driving behaviours.

Together, we can create safer roads for all residents.
