Over the weekend (May 5-8), officers were kept busy with over 200 calls for service. Calls included break and enters, family disputes, motor vehicle collisions, noise complaints, suspicious persons, unwanted persons, and more.
On May 5, 2017 at approximately 5:30 a.m., a City of Timmins worker was approached by a male. The male is alleged to have struck the victim, before entering the victim’s vehicle and throwing various objects from the vehicle at the victim and other individuals trying to assist.
The incident resulted in the windshield of another vehicle being damaged. Upon further investigation, police learned that the accused was bound by a probation order, with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Additionally, he was bound by an undertaking with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, as well as to abstain from the consumption of drugs/narcotics.
As a result of this incident, the individual was found to be in breach of those conditions. Pascal Cadotte, 31, of Timmins faces charges of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5,000, Cause Disturbance, Breach of Probation and Breach of Undertaking (x2). He was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for May 8, 2017.
Also on May 5, at approximately 11 p.m., police received a call regarding an individual attempting to enter a local establishment and believed to be carrying a concealed weapon.
Officers attended the scene and upon searching the individual, located an edged weapon. Police also located a quantity of controlled substances in the accused’s possession.
As a result of the incident, Shane Varady, 24, of Timmins, faces charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Schedule I Substance. He was released on a Promise to Appear in court with a future date of June 27, 2017.
On May 7, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a Timmins Police officer observed an individual who was known to be bound by a Recognizance. Upon completing a routine check of the individual’s conditions, it was determined that he was under conditions to remain out of the City of Timmins for a period of time.
This led police to charge Robert Laliberte, 42, of Timmins, with Breach of Recognizance. He was released on a Recognizance with a future court date of May 23, 2017.
On May 7, at approximately 11 a.m., while on patrol, a Timmins Police officer observed a female individual who appeared to be distraught. The officer began to speak with the female to check on her well-being. Shortly thereafter, the female was approached by a male who continually
attempted to speak with the female despite warnings from police to refrain from doing so. After repeated refusals to comply with officers’ requests, the individual was placed under arrest. He is then alleged to have resisted arrest and became combative with police.
Police eventually gained control over the individual and were able to restrain him and place him under arrest. A 17 year- old youth faces charges of Cause Disturbance, Obstruct Peace Officer and Resist Peace Officer. Pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the young offender cannot be released.
